Man and Teen Nephew Shot Dead During Diwali Celebration in Delhi, Teen Suspect Held
New Delhi: In a tragic incident on Diwali night, a man and his teenage nephew were fatally shot outside their home in Delhi’s Shahdara area. The deadly encounter, involving a 17-year-old boy who allegedly orchestrated the attack due to a financial dispute, unfolded around 8 p.m. in Shahdara’s Farsh Bazar locality and was captured on CCTV, according to police reports.
The victims, Akash Sharma, 44, and his nephew, 16-year-old Rishabh Sharma, were celebrating Diwali with Akash’s son, Krish Sharma, 15, by setting off firecrackers on a narrow street outside their residence. In the footage, the suspect is seen approaching on a two-wheeler, touching Akash’s feet as a gesture of respect, while a second individual – the shooter – stands nearby.
Moments later, the shooter opened fire, hitting Akash multiple times, fatally wounding him and injuring Krish. When Rishabh attempted to chase the attackers, he was also shot and killed.
Authorities revealed that the 17-year-old boy, a distant relative of Akash, had reportedly lent him ₹70,000 about a month prior. Frustrated by unsuccessful attempts to retrieve the loan, the suspect allegedly planned the attack nearly three weeks earlier, a senior police official noted.
The suspect had a history with law enforcement, with prior charges of attempted murder filed against him. Police also confirmed that Akash had previously registered several serious complaints, including those of rape and murder, against the teenager and his brother, Yogesh Sharma, Rishabh’s father.
